SLAYER Wins 'Best Metal' GRAMMY AWARD

SLAYER was honored with a Grammy in the "Best Metal Performance" category in the pre-telecast ceremony at the 50th annual Grammy Awards, which are being held tonight (Sunday, February 10) at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. SLAYER was nominated for the track "The Final Six", from the band's 2007 limited-edition "Christ Illusion". The song, written by SLAYER's vocalist/bassist Tom Araya and guitarist Jeff Hanneman and produced by Josh Abraham, is a chilling look at an hypothesized end of the world. The track made its debut last July as the "Single of the Week" on MySpace where it has since accumulated some 750,000 plays, an astounding number for a song that received no commercial airplay.

A visibly nervous Araya accepted the award, stating, "Thank you very much. I don't know what to say. This is our second time. I have to thank Sony, first off, for reissuing the record and putting this new song on the album, and now I'm here again — we are here again, actually. Most of all, [I'd like to] thank Rick Rubin [producer and head of American Recordings], who's been with us, been there for us for the past 23 years, 24 years. Thank you. My wife, my two kids; Sandra [wife], Ariel and Tommy. They're here with me. Of course, my manager, who's been with us for a good 20 years now. Well, thank you very much. Thank the Academy. Thank you."

BRUCE KULICK On 'Gene Simmons Roast'

"Gene Simmons Roast" was taped on November 27, 2007 at the Key Club on Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood, California. Former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick attended the event and has issued the following report:

"Got an invite to the 'Gene Simmons Roast' and it was a hilarious evening. It ran so late I couldn't even stay till the end, but some of the jokes about Gene and KISS in general were brutal, but very funny. He asked for it, and he got it. I also had the pleasure of speaking with Nicholas, his son. Imagine a young, spitfire version of Gene, without the knowledge of fame and fortune. A classy offspring, so Gene and Shannon (Tweed) have done great with their unique style of family. He is a family jewel! Sophie [Gene's daughter] was not in attendance as it was a bit blue and, shall I say, inappropriate.

"Also spoke with Geoff Tate from QUEENSRŸCHE, ALICE IN CHAINS' Jerry Cantrell, and Scott Ian from ANTHRAX. METAL SKOOL was the house band, and they are very funny to entertain. I know they will have to edit this event, as it was taped for A&E.

"By the way, I did not roast Gene, that was left for the comedians and his son.

"Can't wait to see the final version.

"Thanks to Gene for the invite. I had a great time!!"

The "Gene Simmons Roast" was hosted by comedian Jeffrey Ross and is scheduled to air on A&E sometime in April 2008.

Ross stated before the event: "I'm roasting my childhood hero... Growing up, Gene was my favorite member of my favorite band. But that doesn't mean I'm not gonna take him down hard."

Gary moore play HENDRIX

The Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey theatrical screening and 40th anniversary all-star tribute concert featuring Gary Moore (guitar) and surviving Jimi Hendrix and the Experience - Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), is still going full steam ahead at the Hippodrome (in London's Leicester Square) on Thursday October 25th. A screening of Jimi's legendary Monterey performance will start at 7:45pm, followed by the all-star tribute concert at 9pm.



The Hippodrome event dovetails the October 29th release of "Jimi Hendrix Live at Monterey: Definitive Edition DVD, CD and HD DVD which features the new Jimi Hendrix documentary "American Landing". The Monterey Pop Festival footage celebrates the 40th anniversary of Hendrix's 1967 US debut with his band 'Jimi Hendrix and the Experience'.



The screening will be followed by a live concert performed by an all-star band featuring surviving Jimi Hendrix and The Experience musicians Mitch Mitchell (drums) and Billy Cox (bass), plus Gary Moore (guitar), Dave Bronze (bass) and Primal Scream's Darrin Mooney (drums). The theatrical screening and concert will be mixed by Jimi Hendrix's original recording engineer, Eddie Kramer.

The live cinecast that was supposed to be beamed to over 20 VUE cinemas across the UK will no longer happen. Instead, an edited down version of tomorrow evening's Hippodrome screening and all-star tribute concert will be shown in selected UK cinemas a week later.
